While British women left their mark on alcohol consumption, Turkey’s place attracted attention

According to a study, it was determined that the women who drink the most alcohol in the world live in England.

The fact that women in the United Kingdom are among the highest drinkers of alcohol in the world worries the authorities.
While 26 percent of women in the report admitted to consuming six or more alcoholic drinks at a time, experts blame the “ladette” (a woman who acts or drinks like a man) and the “happy hour” culture for this.
This rate was more than double the average rate of 12 percent among the 33 countries analyzed by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Along with British women, the same rate was found for women in Denmark (26 percent), followed by Luxembourg (24 percent) and Germany (22 percent). Türkiye was at the bottom of the list with 3 percent.
IT INVITS MANY DISEASES
The OECD’s “Health 2023 at a Glance” report warns that drinking increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, liver cirrhosis and some types of cancer.
“These figures are extremely worrying,” said emeritus professor John Britton, an addiction expert at the University of Nottingham.
“The harm is happening right under our noses because alcohol, like tobacco, remains an integral part of British society and daily life. ”
“Too many people turn to alcohol to help them relax at the end of a stressful day at work, when they should be looking for healthier alternatives.” said.
EXACTLY 111 BOTTLES PER PERSON
The latest figures show that in 2021 Britons drank the equivalent of 10 liters of pure ethanol per person (about 111 bottles of wine). This figure increased to 9.9 liters in 2011. In Turkey, this rate was below 5 liters.
Cancer Research UK health information director Dr. Rachel Orritt said: “Drinking causes seven different types of cancer. “Drinking doesn’t mean someone will definitely get cancer, but the more alcohol a person drinks, the higher the risk.” He made a statement.
