(Kuala Lumpur News) The development characteristics of women’s breasts will change differently at different stages.

Breast surgery consultant Dr. Chen Yifei pointed out that many times we will notice that about a week after birth, 60% of babies’ breasts will be swollen and bulging, and they may appear to have small lumps, and some may even secrete a small amount. Breast milk causes parents to worry.

Areola color deepens between 12 and 13 years old

“In fact, this is a normal physiological phenomenon, because when the mother is pregnant, the levels of estrogen and prolactin in the body increase, reaching a peak during delivery, and the fetus will also be affected by the hormones, so parents do not need to worry, and You don’t have to do anything, it will naturally return to normal in about three or four weeks and then enter a quiescent period, so just watch.”

In the early stage of development, except for the two stages of infancy and childhood, generally before the age of 10, the breasts have not yet developed. There is no difference between girls and boys at this time. Breast development is basically in a static state, that is, the chest is flat. , small nipple bulges, and areolas are all pink.

“The second stage is puberty. At this time, under the stimulation of estrogen and progesterone secreted by the ovaries, girls can see their nipples slowly enlarge and their breasts gradually swell when they are about 9 to 11 years old. There will be an obvious spherical shape.”

She said that some girls will feel breast swelling and pain, and the areola is obviously higher than the breast system and begins to grow. You can also feel that there seems to be a hard lump behind the nipple, which is harder than the surrounding tissue. This tissue is called breast tissue (Breath Part).

“So, between the ages of 9 and 11,

Many little girls have to wear vests.

Then change to different types of underwear as your breasts change.

Between the ages of 12 and 13, the color of the areola will deepen.

The mammary glands begin to swell, resulting in a fuller breast shape.

By the age of 14 or 15, the areola and nipples continue to enlarge.

The protruding breasts have not only become plump, but the curves have become quite obvious.

Finally, by the time I was 16 or 17 years old, my nipples had completely protruded. “

Basically, the breasts have developed and will look firm and plump, full of feminine charm. But she said that everyone is affected by different circumstances, including genetics, nutritional status and physical conditions, and their development time is also different.

Everyone develops at different times

“Some girls develop earlier, but some may only have an A cup when they are 16 years old; some may already have a D cup at this time, so these are different changes that can be seen.”

She described that 7 to 10 days before menstruation, the estrogen level in the body will gradually increase. What will happen at this time? Even the breast ducts and breast lobules will also increase. If you touch the breast at this time, you will feel as if there are many particles in it. It feels a bit like touching a pack of mung beans. The breast will also be swollen or tingling, but don’t be nervous, because this It is a physiological change, also known as cyclical mastalgia. With the onset of menstruation, hormone levels drop, and the breasts gradually recover. They can return to normal 7 to 8 days after menstruation.

“The same change will happen again the next month before menstruation, so doctors call it cyclic pain.”

She pointed out that during pregnancy and after childbirth, many people will find that the color of the nipple and areola will deepen, like dark brown, and the subcutaneous meridians of the breast will become more and more obvious, because the breast ducts and breast lobules begin to grow, and the breasts are getting ready. Breastfeeding, therefore, the size will also increase, and the swelling will be very serious. In the third trimester, almost one month before delivery, the development of the mammary glands has almost reached its peak. In many cases, as long as the nipple is pressed, there may be milk secretion. come out.

“Sometimes the weight of the breasts will increase from 400 to 600 grams, which is 2 to 3 times that of the third trimester. So at this time, pregnant women have to wear different underwear because the breast size has changed. Only by wearing suitable underwear can they feel comfortable and comfortable. Get the support you need.”

Breast secretion of milk after delivery

“When you enter the lactation period after giving birth, normally the breasts will continue to secrete milk. Under the action of prolactin, the mammary gland lobules begin to secrete activity to increase milk, and the breasts will begin to swell and ache. At this time, It needs to be massaged with hands or after the baby sucks it, colostrum is secreted.

She said that after the mother develops regular breastfeeding, the colostrum will regularly fill and empty the mother’s milk repeatedly. Generally, mothers can breastfeed for 1 year, some for 2 years, and even 3 to 4 years.

“After the mother stops breastfeeding, it takes 3 to 6 months to return to the non-pregnant state, but there are also cases where it lasts for several years. But usually it is 6 months to 18 months. This situation is very common, so Don’t worry too much.”

Precocious puberty is divided into 3 categories

Generally, pubertal sexual development occurs in a fixed sequence, but when it starts and the speed of change vary from person to person.

Precocious puberty refers to sexual maturity that begins before the average age.

Chen Yifei pointed out that the general pubertal development of girls is based on about 8 to 13 years old and lasts about 4 years; for boys, it starts between the ages of 9 and 14 and lasts for 4 to 6 years. This is a normal milestone.

Early appearance of pubic and armpit hair

“The first change in a girl’s pubertal development usually starts with the breasts, and then pubic hair and armpit hair grow. Doctors have found that in the past 20 to 30 years, the age of breast development is getting earlier and earlier. This trend actually reflects The obesity epidemic has been investigated because it has been found that a higher body mass index (BMI) is related to earlier breast development, so if a child is overweight, it can easily lead to the problem of precocious puberty.”

She said that in children with precocious puberty, their bodies transform into adult bodies earlier than expected. In the traditional definition, girls are before the age of 8 and boys are before the age of 9. Precocious puberty can be divided into three categories: central precocious puberty, peripheral precocious puberty, and incomplete precocious puberty.

“Central precocious puberty is caused by the premature secretion of certain sex hormones (gonadotropins) by the pituitary gland. These hormones cause the ovaries or testicles (gonadotropes) to mature and enlarge. Once mature, the gonads begin to secrete other sex hormones, such as estrogen or testosterone, which trigger pubertal development. Physical changes are usually the same as normal pubertal changes for that sex, unless they begin at an earlier age.”

She said boys develop a masculine appearance with enlarged testicles, elongated penises and facial, armpit and pubic hair; girls develop breast development and pubic and armpit hair. In both sexes, there is a growth spurt that results in a rapid increase in height. But unlike normal puberty, the rapid growth in height during precocious puberty ends early, so these children will be shorter than expected as adults.

Depends on the production of hormones

“Peripheral precocious puberty is less common because gonadotropins from the pituitary gland do not stimulate estrogen or testicular secretion. Tumors in the adrenal glands or immature testicles or ovaries, or other abnormalities, may cause higher androgen or estrogen levels. High. These hormones do not mature the testicles or ovaries themselves, but only promote the development of secondary sexual characteristics.”

She said that both boys and girls with peripheral precocious puberty have androgens and estrogens. Therefore, the physiological changes during puberty depend on the hormones produced rather than gender. So, tumors and abnormalities that produce androgen or estrogen cause changes in breast tissue, growth of pubic and armpit hair, adult body odor and acne, and even signs of penis enlargement in boys and girls.

“Incomplete precocious puberty is when some children develop several signs of puberty too early. For example, premature breast or pubic hair development, and the absence of any other pubertal development such as testicles, ovarian changes, or sudden menstrual bleeding.”
