Judgment in Karlsruhe: Warning notices will soon also be on many cigarette machines
Anyone who buys cigarettes from a vending machine will soon be confronted with even more warnings. The highest civil court in Germany decided this on Thursday. Until now, you could buy boxes from vending machines, especially at supermarket checkouts, without initially seeing the warning images. The product was hidden inside, the buttons were designed like boxes with no warnings.
The non-smoking initiative Pro Rauchfrei had therefore sued the operators of two Munich supermarkets. The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) has now ruled that in the future buttons that look like cigarette packs will also have to show the shock images. However, if the buttons do not look like the product, there is no such obligation, the BGH continued.
