Increasing number of infections: Karl Lauterbach calls on risk groups to receive corona vaccinations

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach has called on people with risk factors to be vaccinated against the coronavirus due to the increasing number of infections. The infection is not a cold, said the SPD politician. If you get vaccinated now, this is “the optimal time” for it to be fully effective by Christmas.

Lauterbach described it as disappointing that so far only three million people have used vaccinations with new preparations that are adapted to current corona variants. The Standing Vaccination Commission currently recommends corona vaccinations for people aged 60 and over and for those with chronic illnesses.

Lauterbach made it clear that calculations based on available data indicate a wave of infections. This should correspond to an incidence of 1,700 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, said the minister after a round table on longer-lasting impairments after corona infections. However, the President of the Robert Koch Institute, Lars Schaade, said that this level has a different meaning than during the pandemic given the higher basic immunity through vaccinations and infections.
