Besancon. Dr Péchier indicted for three new cases of poisoning

Summoned to court on Wednesday, the anesthesiologist Frédéric Péchier was indicted for three new suspected poisonings of patients in Besançon, reported The Republican East. Of these three cases, two are fatal, indicated the public prosecutor of Besançon, Etienne Manteaux, after the interrogation.

Dr. Péchier, 51, is now indicted for 29 cases of alleged poisoning of patients in Besançon, including 12 fatalities, and placed as an assisted witness for another. This interrogation was a new stage in the series of hearings started on March 8 by the examining magistrate Marjolaine Poinsard during which she wanted to address eight new cases of potential poisoning and summarize all the files for which she will ultimately put the practitioner under examination.

In total, investigators suspect him of 32 cases, 13 of which would be fatal. At this stage of the procedure, there are still two additional cases to be examined, according to Etienne Manteaux. They could be during the next interrogation, scheduled for Wednesday, March 29, and earn him two new indictments. The prosecutor indicated that he would hold a press conference at the end of this series of interrogations.

The defense wants a change of investigating judge

The anesthesiologist’s defense has also announced that it has filed motions for nullity as well as a request for recusal against the investigating judge. “The idea (…) is simply to manage to have a slightly new look at this file”, indicated to the journalists at the end of the interrogation one of the lawyers of Frédéric Péchier, Lee Takhedmit. . “It’s been more than four years since this file”, opened in early 2017, “has been at a standstill. (…) I think the judge is a bit worn out,” he added, believing that a “change” of the investigating magistrate “would be a good thing”. “It seems difficult to me to maintain true impartiality when you have been with your head in the handlebars for years,” he continued.

As during the previous interrogation, his client remained silent on Wednesday, said the council, considering that “the program of questions” presented by the judge did not allow Frédéric Péchier to answer “in good conditions”. The defense claims in particular to have received counter-expertise too late – there are 32 in total – which constitute the basis of these new hearings. “Mr. Péchier is eager to be able to express himself (…) but in good conditions”, assured Me Takhedmit.

Free under judicial supervision, Frédéric Péchier arrived shortly after 9:30 a.m. at the Besançon judicial court alongside Lee Takhedmit and another of his lawyers, Me Randall Schwerdorffer. “I have no answer to give you,” he replied to a journalist who questioned him about his state of mind.

Frédéric Péchier is suspected of having polluted, between 2008 and 2017, the infusion bags of patients in two private clinics in Besançon to cause cardiac arrest and then demonstrate his resuscitator talents, but also to discredit colleagues with whom he was in conflict. .
